CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE - WORK FROM HOME

One cannot deny that with the technology and connectivity available to us it opens up new possibilities to work remotely. The upshot to this trend is that more people are looking to reside out of the hustle and bustle of the Metropoles - and what better home base to choose than one of the beautiful Hangklip towns: Kleinmond, Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and Rooi Els.

We have done some investigating into the realities of living in this paradise.

The Overstrand Municipality stretches along the Cape Coastline from Pearly Beach to Rooi Els. The largest town being Hermanus and the smallest village being Rooi Els.

SCHOOLS: If you have school going children there are primary schools in Pringle Bay, Kleinmond, Hermanus and Gansbaai to choose from with the High Schools being in Hermanus. Sometimes people choose Caledon's high schools as it is approximately the same distance from Pringle Bay/Bettys Bay/Kleinmond. There are also quite a few home schools that are structured and provide for personalized schooling by registered tutors.

INTERNET ACCESS: Another consideration has to be internet access/connectivity. There are two main service providers apart from Telkom: ASK I.T and Sonic.

Both of these local suppliers have done much to extend their footprint and have worked with targeted homeowners in the area to position signal beacons on their properties so that the towers are constantly able to connect you. Internet speed here is a bit slower than fibre but fast enough to do your work. Average speeds are 7MB/sec going up to 10MB/sec making them very viable.

MEDICAL INFRASTRUCTURE: An important consideration is also medical infrastructure and amenities. Dotted across the Overstrand are excellent general practitioners, veterinary clinics, pharmacies also two hospitals in Hermanus (One State Owned and the other Private) and a step-down facility.

RECREATION: Cabin fever and isolation need not take its toll, even if you work remotely. There are many clubs in the area that you can join to connect with other like-minded individuals. Most of the club's info is posted on the Library notice boards.

There are wonderful coffee shops and cafes dotted along the coastline which can be a great place to sit and work for a few hours and who knows - maybe you will meet new friends.

The Overstrand encourages all who reside here to be a 'tourist' in your own village and there are certainly many interesting places to see and be seen at. In our Village - Betty's Bay -we have the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens who also host a park run/walk every Saturday morning. We have the Cape Nature Stoney Point Penguin Colony and just by visiting these birds once per month you can have a huge impact on the resources they need for care and treatments of the threatened African Penguin Species. The beaches are so varied you could take a long run on sandy shorelines at sunrise, go for a surf at noon at another and look for shells and pebbles in hidden coves while watching the sun set at yet another - and you still would not have seen them all!

Then there are the mountains which provide ideal hiking terrain, mountain biking, rivers for kayaking and of course the world renown Cape Fynbos densely dotting the landscape even into the gardens which most people opt to keep relatively natural to the surrounds.

On Facebook there are active community groups who keep you in the know of what is going on in your area specific as well as upcoming events.

DREAMING OF A NEW LIFE? If you, like many others, are bucking the 9-5 office trend for a "spend less time on the road and be more productive from home" lifestyle, why not check out the Overstrand and find a home that affords you space and quality of life. At only 76km from CT City Bowl to our nearest village and 122km from Hermanus it makes those odd office meetings easier to get to than you might think and the drive into the City from here is simply spectacular from Clarence Drive!

Our agents operating in the Overstrand are all resident agents with a great insight to the area and surrounds. Speak to an agent today if you would like to learn more about living and working in the Overstrand.
